2015 Salute to Firefighter of the YearThe Exchange Club of Windsor is proud to honor Captain Craig Mendola of Windsor Volunteer Fire Department this October at our local Salute to Windsor’s Bravest event held at Union Street Tavern in September. The event was attended by CT District Exchange Club President Bill Solder, Captain Mendola, members of his family, and fellow firefighters, and members of the Exchange Club. Captain Mendola joined the Town of Windsor Volunteer Fire Department in July of 1987, was promoted to Lieutenant in January 1995, and was promoted to the position of Captain by Chief William Lewis in 2013. Craig’s knowledge of the current firefighting techniques insures that he keeps his fellow firefighters in the safest as possible readiness as he serves with Company 3 in Poquonock. Captain mendola expresses his unbiased opinions at departmental meetings and keeps abreast of the ever changing technology and safety issues, and continues to unselfishly share that knowledge with his fellow firefighters. The Department is extremely proud to honor Captain Craig Mendola as the Town of Windsor Volunteer Fire Department’s Firefighter of the year.
Captain Mendola was again honored on a district level at The Connecticut District Exchange Clubs 18th Annual 2015 Salute to Connecticut's Bravest dinner held at the Aqua Turf in Plantsville, CT on October 15th. This district Exchange event honored 25 firefighters from 16 Connecticut towns that participated in this years event. The evening was well attended with several hundred people from across Connecticut. The Connecticut District Exchange Clubs has sponsored this annual ceremony for the past 18 years recognizing outstanding firefighters from the numerous Connecticut communities in which local Exchange Clubs are active. The event is part of a program of service focusing on Fire Prevention. Firefighters are selected by their peers, and are representative of their fellow firefighters high ideals and extraordinary accomplishments in Fire Prevention. It is hoped that the recognition bestowed on these firefighters will serve as an inspiration to those in the field to strive to similar ideals and thereby make a positive contribution to fire prevention activity in their communities.
